DLT Registration process

DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) registration is mandatory for businesses and organizations that want to send SMS messages in India, as per TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) regulations. This process is intended to prevent spam and ensure transparency in messaging. Here’s a step-by-step guide to the DLT registration process:

Step 1: Choose a DLT Platform

Different telecom providers offer DLT platforms, including:

Step 2: Register as an Entity

  1. Visit the selected DLT platform.

  2. Click on “Register Now” or “Entity Registration.”

  3. Fill in the required details, such as:

    • Business/Company Name

    • PAN Number

    • GST Number (if applicable)

    • Business Address

    • Contact Details (Email & Mobile)

  4. Upload necessary documents:

    • PAN Card (Mandatory)

    • GST Certificate (if applicable)

    • Business Registration Certificate (if applicable)

  5. Submit the registration form and pay the applicable fees (if any).

Step 3: Verification and Approval

  • The telecom provider will verify your submitted documents.

  • You will receive an approval email and login credentials once verified.

Step 4: Register Headers (Sender IDs)

  1. Log in to your DLT account.

  2. Navigate to “Manage Headers” or “Sender ID” section.

  3. Choose Transactional, Promotional, or Service Header, depending on the type of SMS you plan to send.

  4. Submit up to 6-character Sender IDs (e.g., “ABCDEF” for transactional SMS).

  5. Wait for approval (usually takes 24-48 hours).

Step 5: Content Template Registration

  1. Go to the Template Management section.

  2. Click on “Add Template” and provide:

    • Template Name (for reference)

    • Template Type (Transactional, Promotional, Service)

    • Message Content (Static or Dynamic with placeholders like {{name}}, {{OTP}})

  3. Submit the template for approval.

Step 6: Integrate with SMS Provider

  • Once your entity, sender ID, and templates are approved, share the DLT registration details (Entity ID, Header ID, and Template ID) with your SMS service provider for seamless SMS delivery.

Important Notes

  • Transactional SMS: Used for OTPs, alerts, and critical updates (Requires specific approval).

  • Promotional SMS: Used for marketing messages (Only sent to DND non-registered numbers).

  • Service SMS: For informational messages (e.g., balance updates, booking confirmations).
